FAMED SCULPTOR CREATES DIAMOND-ENCRUSTED SKULL

A diamond-encrusted, life-size platinum skull by Damien Hirst will go on sale for £50 million in London.

"For the Love of God" is covered entirely by 8,601 stones weighing a total of 1,106.18 carats – three times the number on the crown the Queen wears on state occasions! The single biggest expense was the 52 carat pear-shaped stone set into the forehead. It forms part of the exhibition, "Beyond Belief" at the White Cube, Mason's Yard Gallery in London (June 1 – July 7, 2007).

A sale of the skull for £50 million would put Hirst, 41, on a price level with Pablo Picasso and Gustav Klimt, dead artists who produced some of the 20th century's most famous works.

A glittering dress, dripping in 4,000 diamonds, was recently modelled by Tanya Alvarez to launch the Irish Grand National in the luxurious surroundings of the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin. The diamond-encrusted dress was designed by Thomas Heverin of Sligo and was a labour of love for the designer; taking 200 hours to hand sew each of the 4,000 diamonds.

The gossamer-fine frock may be worth a small fortune, but there was little chance of any jewel thief getting to grips with it. Tanya was accompanied by two huge bodyguards wherever she went, who kept a beady eye on her every move!!
